What Are Container Loading Services?
Container loading is the professional process of driving, winching, or lifting a vehicle into a shipping container, then securing it with chocks, straps, and timber lashing so it cannot move during the entire ocean voyage.
Done properly, your vehicle arrives at the destination port in the same condition it left the UK. Done poorly with loose strapping, no moisture protection, or untrained staff, damage happens fast at sea.

Container Loading Options
20ft Container Loading
A standard 20ft container comfortably holds 1 to 2 vehicles, depending on size. It’s the most popular option for a single car or a compact 4×4 heading overseas. The 20ft container offers full enclosed protection against weather, dust, and handling damage throughout the voyage.
Best for: Single cars, saloons, hatchbacks, compact SUVs.
40ft Container Loading
A 40ft container can hold 3 to 4 standard vehicles at ground level or up to 4 vehicles using our R-Rak multi-level loading system. If you’re a dealer shipping a batch of stock or a private buyer consolidating vehicles to save on freight costs, the 40ft is your most cost-efficient option.
Best for: Multiple vehicles, vans, larger 4x4s, mixed loads.
45ft High Cube Container Loading
The 45ft high cube container is the largest standard option, and with R-Rak loaded to full capacity, it can carry up to 5 vehicles. The extra height in a high cube container makes multi-level loading smoother and gives your vehicles more clearance during loading and transit.
Best for: Bulk shipments, trade buyers, dealer stock exports.
R-Rak Multi-Level Container Loading
The R-Rak system is the smartest way to maximise container space and cut your cost per vehicle. It’s a removable, steel racking system developed by Trans-Rak International that raises vehicles into the roof space of the container, allowing a second row of vehicles to be loaded underneath.
The R-Rak fits all container sizes, works with virtually every vehicle type from saloons to Range Rovers and is certified by Bureau Veritas. It’s the same system trusted by some of the world’s largest car manufacturers.
Best for: Exporting 3–5 vehicles in a single container, trade buyers, groupage consolidation.
Groupage Container Loading
Don’t need a full container? No problem. Our groupage container loading service lets you share a 20ft or 40ft container with other vehicles heading to the same destination. You only pay for the space your vehicle takes up. It is one of the most affordable container loading options for a single car going to a container-heavy route. How We Protect Your Vehicle Inside the Container
This is where experience really counts. Any company can slide a car into a box. Keeping it safe across thousands of miles of open ocean is another matter entirely.

Wheel chocking and strapping: All four wheels are chocked with solid timber blocks and secured with ratchet straps to the container floor. The vehicle cannot roll, shift, or bounce regardless of sea conditions.
Timber lashing: Where needed, timber lashing is added for extra security, particularly for heavier vehicles, non-runners, or loads on upper R-Rak levels.
Silica desiccant moisture protection: This is one of the most overlooked parts of container shipping, and one of the most important. Moisture and condensation inside a sealed container during a long ocean voyage can cause corrosion, mold, and paint damage. We place industrial-grade silica desiccant bags inside every container we load. These powerful moisture absorbers draw excess humidity from the air throughout the voyage, keeping your vehicle dry from the moment the container doors close in the UK to the moment they open at the destination port.
Moisture capture tubing: For added protection on longer routes (West Africa, Australia, New Zealand), we also use modern moisture capture tubing alongside desiccant bags to handle higher humidity levels at sea.
Photographic record: We photograph every vehicle before and after loading. You get a complete loading record before departure. This also supports any insurance claims if needed.

Since Brexit, all vehicles exported from the UK require a formal export declaration through HMRC’s Customs Declaration Service (CDS). Can I Load Personal Effects Inside the Container?
Yes, one of the key advantages of container over RoRo is that you can include personal effects, spare parts, and accessories inside the vehicle or the container (subject to customs restrictions at your destination). This is included in your container loading and shipping arrangement. Speak to us before loading to confirm what’s permitted for your specific destination.
Container Loading vs RoRo — Which Is Right for You?
Choose container loading if: Your vehicle is a classic, high-value, non-running, electric, or you simply want the maximum protection of an enclosed steel box throughout the voyage. Container loading is also the only option if your destination port doesn’t operate RoRo services.
Choose RoRo if: Your vehicle runs and drives, it’s heading to a major RoRo port (Lagos, Tema, Dubai, Kingston), and you want the most cost-effective option.
